Today, those suffering with acne can find shelves of products designed to treat acne in almost any store. However, many of these "acne cures" contain harmful ingredients, and do more damage than good to the skin. Heal acne and get smooth, clear skin with natural acne treatments.
Quick and Effective Toner Treatments for Acne
Apple cider vinegar is one of the best remedies for acne prone skin. It contains acids and fruit antioxidants that peel away dead skin cells and nourish the skin. Coupled with aspirin, a toner made of apple cider vinegar will dramatically improve the appearance of skin. Fill half a water bottle with apple cider vinegar and fill the rest of the way with water. Add ten to 12 aspirin tablets and let dissolve. Shake well before each use.
Green tea, a heavily researched health drink, is good for the skin from both the inside and the outside. Drinking a few cups every day can help keep skin clear, and applying it directly to the face also heals blemishes. Boil water and let it cool for five minutes. Pour 16 ounces of the hot water over two green tea bags and let steep for ten minutes. Pour tea into a water bottle and place in the refrigerator to cool. Store this toner in the refrigerator and only take out when using it.
Witch hazel is another great ingredient to use to keep skin clear. A plant extract, witch hazel cleans and tightens pores, and balances sebum for skin that is moisturized, but not oily. Many drugstores carry witch hazel in 16 ounce bottles for around four dollars. Add a few drops of lavender or tea tree oil for an extra clearing boost.
Deep Cleaning Acne Treatments
Clay is one of nature’s most healing substances. Clay facials pull impurities from the skin, tighten pores, and dry up blemishes by clearing off dead skin cells. Green or white clay powder works the best. Combine equal parts of clay and apple cider vinegar and mix until smooth. Apply to face and leave on until dry, about 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water and follow with one of the toners listed previously.
Soothe stressed, unhealthy skin with a honey mask. Add two teaspoons of cinnamon to four tablespoons of natural honey. Mix thoroughly and apply to face. Leave on for about 20 minutes and rinse off with warm water. Honey contains many essential vitamins and minerals that are important for healthy skin. Honey also keeps the skin hydrated while ridding it of excess oil. Antioxidants in cinnamon help clear up blemishes and make the skin soft.
Hydrate and moisturize the skin while reducing breakouts with grape seed or jojoba oil. Grape seed oil is very light and non-greasy; it actually clears the pores and heals blemishes. Jojoba oil is not considered actual oil, but is derived from a type of bean. Jojoba oil is also non-greasy like grape seed oil, but also “tricks” the skin into believing it has produced enough sebum, resulting in less oily skin. About once a week, wash the face and gently pat dry. Apply some grape seed or jojoba oil. Let it soak in and leave on skin for up to 30 minutes and rinse off. To use every day as moisturizer only use a few drops; a little goes a long way with these oils!
